Dairy cattle manure utilization by smallholder dairy farmers in West Java, Indonesia

Besides producing milk and other products, dairy farms also generate manure polluting the environment. This study aims to identify smallholder farmers' utilization of cattle in West Java reasons that hinder it. uses IndoDairy end-line survey data, covering 410 farmers four districts (Bandung, Garut, Cianjur, Bogor) December 2021. A qualitative descriptive analysis was employed. The results show only 42.8% utilized for fertilizer, a source energy (biogas), and/or media raising earthworms. At same time, rest, 57.2%, discharged it into their surroundings. Among did not appropriately manage were as follows: too difficult adopt technology (27.5%), high adoption cost (21.0%), are already satisfied with current practices (10.1%), limited input availability (9.5%), land (9.0%), lack information (8.1%), many labors needed (7.8%). Given environmental problem can be caused economic potential waste, government should provide efficient practical waste management accompanied by intensive training assistance.
